The Watchtower Org will die.
by Freeandclear ini was just reading through some posts and had a startling realization.. the comment that sparked this went something like this: why oh why when i started into this in 1989 did i not research the history of the wtbts?
etc....... i too was studying and moving towards baptism around that same time.
i got dunked in dec of 1990.. my thought.

This religion will not die in 10 years. Yes by definition it is a cult, but it's not a small group ran by one charismatic leader. The internet has been accessible to the masses for twenty years now, and the religion still has millions of very loyal followers. Growth may become stagnant but that doesn't mean the religion will die. It is not your typical business model.
Look at Sears/Kmart, they are a company that should of folded years ago, but they are still around because they have assets they can sell, namely real estate. The same is with the JW with the huge exception of NO FEDERAL/STATE TAXES. They get a tax free income stream and free labor. This religion will be around for a long long time.

The only ex-jw that lives in Japan I know of is my brother. He is in the Navy and stationed there for a few years. He was never baptized but was raised as one. I was just browsing through old topics and saw this. Hopefully you have a bigger social network by now. -

Why Do Intelligent People Believe in God?
by cantleave inone of the most common thing thrown at atheists is - lots of intelligent people believe in god.
this darkmatter 2525's video is an excellent explanation as to why very logical people possess religious belief systems.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y201qzddzbg.

Why do people quote from Wikipedia? It's not accepted as a valid source. It is a great tool and at the very bottom are the actual references.
Anyway, like Simon said who cares what intellectual believes in God. It adds no weight to the argument.

Jehovah's Witnesses the richest religion in the world..
by wwjdnwt ini don't post here too much..i am more of a lurker.
but, wanted to share recent conversation with jw family member.. one of my jw relatives recently went to visit another jw relative that is "serving where the need is great",.
when my jw relative returned home and i was talking with him, who is an older jw who has been in for over 50 years, was so excited to tell me about the special talk.

Problem with that chart is it lists entire religions as one of the top 10 richest. A more appropriate list would be a breakdown of specific denominations. It did list quite a few: Scientology, Church of England, Catholic etc.. But to have Islam as #2 is misleading. It isn't like there is just one religion in Islam controlling all that money. -

LoveUniHateExams, Why do dumb people accept evolution?
lol, great comment.
I don't deny the existence of God and think a case could be made for his/her existence. Too me it really doesn't matter, and I have a similar opinion as Mark Twain had on the subject.
God doesn't know we are here, and if he does he doesn't care. Not sure if that is an exact quote but the gist of what Clemens thought.

So , how "worldly" did you get?
by greenhornet ini even hate to use that word worldly tm.. any way i'm probably the worst.. 1 when the jw s come to my door i say i'm not interested .
2 i have gone to many churches and volunteered.. 3 i shredded all my jw books and magazines out in the woods.. 4 had the mormon elders over and studied with them.. 5 tried pot (its legal here).
6 open carry my fire arm every where (legal here also).

I left as a young adult, and I just live a typical normal life. Freedom to do what I please. Why anyone would let mental midgets control all aspects of their life is beyond me. I watch R-rated movies and play violent video games. I smoke weed, drink booze, and shoot guns.... in that order.

What Happens To You When You Die?
by minimus inare our dead loved ones watching over us at all or are they really just gone now?
-

If there is an afterlife with loves ones "looking down" it must be pure torture. Could you imagine dying and being a spirit creature and watching someone you love being murdered or raped and you have no power to stop it.
When we die, that is it. I think we as a species could handle it a little better if we had a reasonable life span. Living on this planet 80 years and 1/3 spent sleeping, 1/3 working, and the other 1/3 is spent arguing on the internet.

I'm not sure how old you are but starting over can be scary but also exciting. Not sure how it's in the UK, but perhaps you can go to college to start a new career.
